WATERVILLE, Maine — Sophomore Miguel Diaz Alvarez scored twice as the Husson University men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to three matches with a 3-3 draw against Colby College in non-conference action Sunday.
Husson (2-3-2) struck early, with Diaz Alvarez scoring an unassisted goal just 2:55 into the contest to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage.
The Eagles continued to generate opportunities, as sophomore Cesar Soucre forced Colby goalkeeper Jackson Magee into a save in the 12th minute. Diaz Alvarez and sophomore Chadi Hamadi each added two attempts over the next three minutes as Husson looked to extend its lead.
Colby (3-2-3) answered in the 18th minute when Anthony Bugliari scored off an assist from Jude Gussen to tie the match. Just 1:18 later, Bugliari scored again, this time off a feed from Theo Scott, to put the Mules ahead 2-1.
Diaz Alvarez brought Husson even in the 26th minute, converting a penalty kick at 25:13 for his second goal of the afternoon.
Junior Tibo Desorme tested Magee in the 29th minute, but the teams entered halftime tied 2-2. Husson held an 8-6 advantage in shots over the opening 45 minutes, including four attempts on target.
Colby threatened early in the second half when Leo Robinson struck the crossbar in the 47th minute, but the Eagles regained the lead at 55:10. Freshman Santiago Jimenez scored his fourth goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Lucas Alabiso to give Husson a 3-2 advantage.
Sophomore Jorge Mora nearly added to the lead in the 58th minute, forcing Magee into another save. Junior Jamie Barr then stopped an attempt from Gussen in the 61st minute to preserve Husson's one-goal advantage.
The Eagles held that lead until the 85th minute, when Bugliari scored his third goal of the contest at 84:10 to bring Colby even at 3-3.
Husson pushed for a late winner, with junior Zain Uddin putting a shot on target in the 87th minute before freshman Ludovico Barosi forced another save in the 88th minute. Diaz Alvarez sent an attempt wide in the 89th minute, and Colby's final shot went high in the closing seconds as the teams settled for the draw.
Diaz Alvarez led the Eagles with five shots, while Hamadi recorded two attempts. Barr played all 90 minutes and finished with one save.
Husson put eight of its 13 shots on target, while Colby finished with 14 shots, including four on goal. The Mules held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Eagles will return to North Atlantic Conference play Saturday, Oct. 3, when they visit the University of Maine at Farmington for a 1 p.m. matchup.
