BANGOR, Maine — Five different Eagles scored as the Husson University men's soccer team earned its second consecutive victory with a 5-1 win over the University of New England in non-conference action Wednesday at John P. Boucher Field.
Husson (2-3-1) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as sophomore Cesar Soucre scored off an assist from sophomore Chadi Hamadi just 3:07 into the contest to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Soucre continued to threaten, forcing UNE goalkeeper Landon Dominski into a save in the fifth minute before striking the post in the 12th minute. Hamadi followed with a shot on target 10 seconds later, but Dominski made another stop.
The Nor'easters (3-4-2) were reduced to 10 players following a red card in the 15th minute, and Husson continued to apply pressure. Sophomore Jorge Mora doubled the Eagles' advantage at 30:00 with his first goal of the season.
UNE answered just 2:19 later when Haukur Karlsson scored an unassisted goal to cut Husson's lead to 2-1.
The Eagles responded with two goals before halftime. Sophomore Miguel Diaz Alvarez finished off an assist from freshman Santiago Jimenez at 39:00 for his fourth goal of the season. Jimenez then scored off Hamadi's second assist of the night in the 42nd minute, extending Husson's lead to 4-1.
Sophomore Lucas Alabiso nearly added another goal when his attempt struck the crossbar in the 44th minute. Husson entered the break with a 19-2 advantage in shots and all four corner kicks of the opening half.
Freshman Carlos Davila extended Husson's lead to 5-1 in the 50th minute, scoring from approximately 35 yards out off an assist from senior Wessel Eldering. The goal was Davila's first of the season.
Husson continued to create opportunities, with Eldering putting a shot on target in the 60th minute before Alabiso tested UNE goalkeeper Jay Weingarten in the 66th minute.
The Eagles' defense limited the Nor'easters to one shot after halftime, with junior Jamie Barr stopping Mike DeSimone's attempt in the 87th minute. Barr played all 90 minutes and finished with one save.
Jimenez recorded a goal and an assist, while Hamadi contributed two assists. Diaz Alvarez led Husson with five shots, followed by Soucre, Jimenez and Alabiso with four apiece.
Husson finished with a 30-3 advantage in shots, including a 9-2 edge in shots on goal, and earned all six corner kicks.
The Eagles will return to the road Sunday when they visit Colby College for a 3 p.m. matchup.
