COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The No. 20 Husson University softball team extended its strong 2026 campaign with a doubleheader sweep of SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday in Cobleskill, New York, winning game one 9-0 before edging out a 2-1 victory in game two.
Game 1: No. 20 Husson 9, Cobleskill 0
Husson (28-4, 11-0 NAC) wasted no time setting the tone in the opener, manufacturing a run in the top of the first inning as junior Camryn King singled, stole second and eventually scored on a senior Morgan Curtis single and throwing error. The Eagles broke the game open in the middle innings, highlighted by senior Lydia Rice's solo home run in the fourth inning to make it 2-0. Later in the frame, Husson capitalized on defensive miscues to plate another run and extend the lead to 3-0.
The fifth inning proved decisive as the Eagles scored three more runs despite recording just one hit in the frame. King reached on an error, stole multiple bases and came around to score, while freshmanJetta Shook delivered an RBI single and senior Emily Dunbar added an RBI groundout to push the lead to 6-0. Husson continued to add on with a run in the sixth on a Curtis RBI double before Rice struck again in the seventh with her second home run of the game. Dunbar followed with an RBI single to cap the scoring at 9-0.
Rice led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, including two home runs and two RBIs, while Curtis added two hits and an RBI. King scored twice and wreaked havoc on the basepaths with three stolen bases. In the circle, junior Ana Lang was dominant, tossing a complete-game one-hitter while striking out 17 batters and allowing just one walk. The 17 strikeouts are a new career-high for Lang and brought her career total to 500, becoming only the second pitcher in Husson softball history to surpass the mark, joining Jen Jones and McKenna Smith.
Game 2: No. 20 Husson 2, Cobleskill 1
Game two presented a much tighter contest, with both teams locked in a scoreless battle through the first three innings. Husson (29-4, 12-0 NAC) broke through in the fourth inning when King walked, stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Curtis before scoring on a sacrifice fly from senior Morgan Tainter to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
SUNY Cobleskill (15-18, 6-6 NAC) answered in the bottom half of the inning, using a double to drive in the tying run and even the score at 1-1. From there, both pitching staffs settled in, keeping the game deadlocked into the late innings.
The decisive moment came in the top of the seventh inning when Rice delivered once again, launching a solo home run to give Husson a 2-1 advantage. The Eagles' pitching made that run stand, as Lang entered in relief and shut the door, striking out 11 batters over four innings to secure the win.
Rice accounted for both RBIs in game two with her seventh-inning home run, while sophomore Allie Casavant recorded one of Husson's two hits in the contest. King reached base three times and added two more stolen bases. Freshman Braelynn Wilcox started in the circle, tossing three scoreless innings before Lang closed out the victory in dominant fashion. Lang added onto her historic day in the circle by surpassing McKenna Smith for second-place all-time in career strikeouts for Husson softball, en route to her 17th win of the year.
The Eagles will return to the Pine Tree State and head to the University of Maine-Presque Isle on Wednesday for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
