WATERVILLE, Maine – The North Atlantic Conference named its weekly award winners for baseball on Monday and Husson University junior Matt Holmes was selected as player of the week.
Holmes got off to a hot start at the plate for the Eagles in their six-game trip to Central Florida, as the junior batted .333 in 21 at-bats, posting three doubles and two home runs, in addition to 16 RBIs, four runs scored and two walks.
Holmes nearly matched the single-game RBI record for Husson baseball in game two of a doubleheader against the University of Wisconsin-Superior, as the left-handed swinger crushed a grand slam and delivered a bases-clearing double, in addition to a sacrifice fly to tally eight RBIs for the game, falling one short of the program record.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday when they head to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
