Women’s track & field takes fourth at SEU Fire Invitational to close spring trip

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Husson University women's track & field team put together a strong weekend at the SEU Fire Invitational, held March 13-14 at Southeastern University, with the Eagles turning in scoring performances across the sprints, distance events, relays, jumps and throws to capture fourth-place in the meet as a team with 52 total points.

On the track, senior Niamiah Perry led Husson in the 100 meters with a 10th-place finish in 13.55 seconds. Sophomore Molly Dearborn followed in 13th at 14.19 seconds, while sophomore Brianna Andrews placed 14th in 14.64 seconds. Dearborn also picked up a point in the 400 meters, placing 10th overall in 1:06.49.

In the middle-distance events, freshman Lucinda Carroll posted an 18th-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:40.67. Husson also had two competitors in the 1500 meters, where freshman Brooke Martin set a new personal-best and placed 24th in 5:59.70 and junior Abby Hunt finished 25th in 6:04.03. Carroll added another solid performance in the 5000 meters, crossing 10th overall in 21:35.00.

Husson also saw success in the steeplechase, where Martin finished sixth in 15:12.51 to score three team points and Hunt placed seventh in 15:20.00 for two more points.

In the hurdles, Perry ran 17.85 seconds in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles to place 10th overall, while Andrews finished 11th in 18.77 seconds.

In the 4x100-meter relay, the quartet of Andrews, Dearborn, sophomore Natasha Monreal and Perry placed second in 52.67 seconds to earn eight points.

In the field events, Monreal had an especially productive meet. She placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.08 meters and followed that with a third-place finish in the triple jump at 10.43 meters. Perry added an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 4.53 meters, while Andrews was ninth at 4.42 meters. Andrews also scored in the triple jump, placing sixth with a mark of 9.07 meters.

In the throws, senior Megan Fletcher led the way for Husson with a series of scoring efforts. She placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 9.70 meters, ninth in the discus at 26.96 meters, fifth in the hammer with a throw of 40.08 meters, and sixth in the javelin at 25.81 meters. Sophomore Paige Chesbro also had a strong all-around meet, placing ninth in the shot put at 9.17 meters, sixth in the discus with a throw of 31.45 meters, ninth in the hammer at 33.29 meters, and eighth in the javelin at 21.46 meters, which set a new personal-best.

Kallie Bartley added an 11th-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 8.01 meters, while senior Allyson Dearborn placed 12th at 7.01 meters. In the discus, Dearborn finished 14th with a throw of 18.67 meters and Bartley was 15th at 15.76 meters. In the javelin, Dearborn placed ninth at 18.38 meters, and Bartley finished 10th with a throw of 13.09 meters.

Husson returns to action on Mar. 28 when it heads to Northampton, Massachusetts to compete in the Carla Coffey Invitational, hosted by Smith College.
