Women’s swimming & diving breaks five pool records in road victory over MMA

CASTINE, Maine – The Husson University women's swimming & diving team put together a complete performance on Saturday afternoon at Maine Maritime Academy, winning the meet 188-94 behind a steady stream of top-five finishes and a handful of pool records.

Husson opened the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay, as freshman Emily Kennard, junior Logan Williams, freshman Abbey Donato and junior Olivia Underwood took first, while Husson's B relay of junior Mia Winslow, freshman Izzie Enos and juniors Mackenzie Gray and Mariah Muskavitch placed third.

In the 1,000-yard freestyle, freshman Sara Harriman turned in one of the signature swims of the day, winning the event while breaking the pool record in 11:43.82. Husson followed with a strong showing in the 200-yard freestyle, led by a victory from Underwood, with Muskavitch placing third and Winslow fifth.

Husson kept stacking points in the sprint backstroke as Kennard won the 50-yard backstroke, while Gray placed fourth and junior Isabella Cost finished fifth. The Eagles then answered on the breaststroke side with Williams winning the 50-yard breaststroke, while Enos took third and junior Julia Brown finished fifth. In the 100-yard butterfly, Husson earned three top-four finishes with Harriman placing second, Donato third, and sophomore Morgan Collins fourth.

The Eagles continued to control the sprint freestyles as freshman Brooklyn Henderson won the 50-yard freestyle, and Husson added more points in diving with a major highlight in one-meter diving, where senior Riley Mahoney won with a pool-record score of 225.10 (six-dive format).

Henderson came right back and won the 100-yard freestyle, with Muskavitch placing fourth and Collins fifth. Kennard then delivered another marquee performance in the 100-yard backstroke, winning in 1:04.68 to break the pool record, with Winslow fourth and Gray fifth. Husson followed with another sweep of the top spots in the 100-yard breaststroke, as Williams took first, Enos third, and Brown fifth.

Underwood posted another win in the 500-yard freestyle, while Husson also earned a runner-up finish from sophomore Gabrielle Hoffmann and a fifth-place result from Cost. Donato then won the 50-yard butterfly, with Husson also placing Henderson third and Harriman fourth.

Mahoney returned to the board and won the meet's second one-meter diving event as well with a score of 131.75. Kennard followed with another first-place finish in the 200-yard IM, winning in 2:25.42 to set another pool record, and Husson added more points with Collins finishing fourth.

Husson closed the day in record-setting fashion in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as the team of Underwood, Donato, Muskavitch and Harriman placed first while breaking the pool record in 4:06.78. Husson's B relay of Winslow, Hoffmann, Enos and Henderson added a third-place finish.

The Eagles closeout the regular season on Saturday when they host Elms College, the University of New England and the University of Maine Club Team for their senior meet starting at 12 p.m.
