BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University women's basketball team fell to No. 8/7 Bowdoin College on Tuesday evening at Newman Gymnasium by a final score of 74-46.
Bowdoin (14-1) set the tone early, opening the game on a 14–2 run and shooting 68.8% from the field in the first quarter to take a commanding 29–5 lead after ten minutes. The visitors consistently pushed the pace in transition and controlled the paint, making it difficult for Husson (10-7) to establish any offensive rhythm early on.
The Eagles began to settle in during the second quarter, finding more consistent looks on the offensive end. Husson trailed Bowdoin just 16-15 in the period, with improved ball movement and trips to the free-throw line helping cut into the deficit. Despite the momentum shift, Bowdoin maintained a 45–20 advantage at the break.
Husson continued to compete after halftime, posting 13 points in the third quarter and matching Bowdoin's physicality inside. Sophomore Saige Evans led the charge for the Eagles, finishing with a team-high 14 points and 10 rebounds for her seventh-consecutive double-double, while sophomore Lilly Roy added seven points and four assists to help keep the offense flowing and senior Laela Martinez contributed nine points. Bowdoin, however, responded with timely baskets to keep the margin comfortable entering the final quarter.
The fourth quarter followed a similar pattern, as Husson continued to battle while Bowdoin's depth proved decisive. The visitors received balanced scoring throughout the lineup and finished the night with 40 points in the paint and 16 fast-break points.
Husson shot 28.3% from the field and 36.8% from three-point range, while Bowdoin connected on 48.3% of its shots overall. The Eagles were outrebounded 49-24, but did manage to force 18 turnovers from the Polar Bears.
The Eagles return to action on Friday when they host the University of Maine at Farmington at 7:30 p.m. at Newman Gymnasium.
