BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's soccer team fought back to force a 1-1 tie against Lesley University in their North Atlantic Conference play opener on Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field.
Husson's (3-2-1, 0-0-1 NAC) and Lesley's (1-1-3, 0-0-1 NAC) defenses held strong to open the game. But in the 23rd minute, the Lynx would be the ones to break the scoreless tie on a free kick by Bethany Slivka, handing them a 1-0 lead that would carry into the half.
The Eagles would equalize the game at 1-1 in the 54th minute with freshman Jaquie Pangburn scoring her fourth goal of the season off an assist on a perfectly placed through-ball by senior Addi Laslie.
Lesley would have a chance to take the lead back, but both attempts would fall short with senior goalkeeper Madison Weigler keeping the score tied.
Husson would have chances of their own in the second half, with senior Devon St. Louis and Laslie getting shots on goal late, but they weren't able to break through, leaving the game at a tie that would hold for the rest of the game.
The Eagles held the edge in shots for the game at 13-7, with a 7-5 lead in shots on goal as well as a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Husson will return to play on Wednesday as they head to Brunswick to take on Bowdoin College at 7 p.m.
