Field hockey falls in home-opener to Colby

BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University field hockey team played its home opener Sunday afternoon, as Colby College defeated Husson 7-1 at the John W. Winkin Sports Complex.

Husson (0-2) would have a couple of chances early into the game, with senior Maddie Perkins getting two shots off, but neither would find the back of the cage.

Colby (0-3) would get six shots off in the first quarter, four of those on goal, but freshman Ella Duchette would save all four, keeping the game scoreless.

The Mules would quickly get on the scoreboard at the start of the second quarter, with Bridget Everett capitalizing on a penalty corner, giving Colby a 1-0 lead that would carry into halftime.

Everett wouldn't waste time adding onto her total, as right after the break, she scored her second goal of the contest. Colby would carry this momentum throughout the third quarter, scoring twice more, bringing the Mules' lead to 4-0.

Colby's offense couldn't be slowed down in the fourth quarter, adding another three goals to their total.

The Eagles would get onto the board in the last two minutes of the fourth, with junior Tessa Capozzoli scoring off a penalty corner, assisted by sophomore Mary Hamblin.

The Mules held a commanding lead in shots, having 22 with 18 of those on goal, while Husson had 13 shots with 2 on goal. Colby would also hold the advantage in penalty corners, having a 10-8 lead.

Duchette saved 10 shots for Husson in the contest in her 60 minutes in goal.

Husson will be back in action on Wednesday, as they'll head to Biddeford to take on the University of New England at 6 p.m.
