BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Husson University field hockey team struck first but couldn't hold off a second-half surge, dropping a 2–1 non-conference decision at the University of New England Wednesday evening at Blue Bolt Field.
The Eagles (0–4) wasted no time grabbing the early momentum. Less than a minute into the game, junior Faith Tillotson buried her first goal of the season off a setup from senior Averi Baker, giving Husson a 1–0 lead just 54 seconds in. That advantage held through halftime as the Eagles' defense, anchored by freshman goalkeeper Ella Duchette, weathered UNE's early pressure.
UNE (3–4) turned the tide in the third period, netting the equalizer at 36:29 on a goal from Gianna Korisianos. Just over two minutes later, Makena Valentine converted a penalty stroke to put the Nor'easters ahead 2–1.
Husson fought to respond but managed just three total shots on the night, with Tillotson registering two of them. Duchette finished with four saves, including three in the third period, to keep the Eagles within striking distance. Senior Leah Pushard added a key defensive save late in the fourth quarter to keep it a one-goal game.
The Eagles will look to regroup when they return to action on Saturday for a non-conference road contest against the University of Southern Maine at 1 p.m.
