BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's soccer team scored four goals in the first half early Saturday afternoon, leading them to defeat the University of Maine Fort Kent, 4-2, at Boucher Field.
The Eagles (2-2) quickly got into the scoring column, as just 34 seconds in, senior Addi Laslie found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season. Laslie's fifth goal of the season wouldn't be far behind, scoring again at the two-minute mark.
Husson continued to add on, with sophomore Paige Dunn hitting a rocket from far outside the box, giving the Eagles an early 3-0 lead before the fifth minute.
The Bengals (2-2-1) would get their first opportunity to cut into the lead 29 minutes in, with Petagay Dixon getting a shot on goal, but a save by freshman goalie Gabriella Smith would hold the Bengals scoreless.
The Eagles appeared to head into halftime with their three-goal lead, but a 40th-minute goal by freshman Jaquie Pangburn, with an assist provided by freshman Thea Gerfen, would give Husson a 4-0 cushion into the half.
After the break, Fort Kent would end the shutout in the 68th minute off a header by Keldonna Jeffery that snuck past the hands of Smith, assisted by Kamoy Brown. The Bengals would quickly add on just a few minutes later with Brown providing the assist again, this time with Shylah Francis scoring, cutting the deficit in half. But Husson's defense would hold the Bengals scoreless for the remainder of the match.
Laslie led the Eagles with 2 goals, with Dunn and Pangburn adding goals of their own.
The Eagles outshot the Bengals 19-4, including 8-3 in shots on target, while Smith recorded one save in net, splitting the 90 minutes with senior Madison Weigler.
Husson will return to action next Saturday when they host Lesley University at Boucher Field at 1 p.m. in its North Atlantic Conference opener.
