BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's soccer team put together a commanding performance on Wednesday evening, defeating in-state rival Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 4-1, at John P. Boucher Field.
The Eagles (2-2) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Just over two minutes into the match, senior Addi Laslie found the back of the net for her third goal of the season after having her initial attempt denied, giving Husson an early 1-0 advantage.
Husson continued to press, and in the 27th minute, freshman Jaquie Pangburn doubled the lead when she finished a pass from sophomore Hailey Tarbox, sending the Eagles into halftime up 2-0.
The hosts kept momentum rolling after the break. Junior Emma Nicholson netted her first goal as an Eagle in the 49th minute, with freshman Thea Gerfen providing the assist. Just two minutes later, Pangburn struck again, tallying her second of the night off a feed from senior Devon St. Louis to stretch the lead to 4-0.
Saint Joseph's (0-2) broke through in the 87th minute when Sydney Gallop scored to spoil the shutout, but Husson's strong two-way play carried the Eagles to their second victory of the season.
The Eagles outshot the Monks 21-9, including an 8-2 edge in shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Gabriella Smith earned the win in net, playing all 90 minutes.
The Eagles return to action this Saturday when they host the University of Maine at Fort Kent at 1 p.m.
