WENHAM, Mass. — The Husson University men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1–1 draw on the road at Gordon College on Sunday afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex.
The Eagles (0-1-1) showed resilience after conceding a first-half goal, responding with an equalizer early in the second half to bounce back from a season-opening loss to Endicott College on Friday.
Gordon (1-0-1) opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when Zach Hutt finished off a feed from Cortez Cardone, giving the Fighting Scots a 1–0 advantage heading into halftime despite Husson generating several promising looks at goal.
Freshman Miguel Diaz Alvarez was particularly active in the attack, firing three shots in the opening frame, though none found the target.
The Eagles regrouped after the break and wasted little time pulling level. In the 51st minute, Diaz Alvarez broke through with his first goal of the season, calmly slotting home after a set-up from classmate Lucas Alabiso. The finish capped off a six-shot performance for Diaz Alvarez, who led all players in attempts.
From there, the match turned into a back-and-forth battle. Husson freshman Liam Mason stood tall in net, making four saves—including two in each half—to keep the game tied. The Eagles' back line absorbed heavy pressure in the closing minutes as Gordon pushed for a winner.
Husson nearly found a decisive strike of its own late, with efforts from junior Daniel Noguera and freshman Tighe Hrabchak forcing the Scots to stay alert defensively. Ultimately, neither side could break the deadlock as the Eagles earned the road draw.
Husson finished with 12 total shots, including three on goal, while Gordon held a narrow 15–12 advantage in attempts and 5–3 edge in shots on target.
The Eagles will look to carry momentum from the road result into their next matchup when they return to Bangor to host Suffolk University on Saturday for their home-opener.
