NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Husson University men's lacrosse team closed out its regular season on Saturday afternoon with a commanding 21-9 victory over the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts at Shewcraft Field in North Atlantic Conference play.
Husson (8-7, 2-3 NAC) took immediate control of the contest in the opening period with the first four goals of the period and six of the seven goals netted in the opening period to take a 6-1 lead into the second quarter.
Freshman Casey Mills opened the scoring just 20 seconds into the contest to start the offensive onslaught, while junior Kiernan Field netted a hat-trick in the opening quarter and freshmen Taylor Schwalje and Cody Dingwell each tallied one goal in the first period.
After surrendering the first goal of the second period, Husson outscored MCLA (2-9, 1-4 NAC) 8-1 for the remainder of the half to take a 14-3 lead into halftime.
Field posted another three goals, while freshman Owen Gray, sophomore Owen Giorgio, senior Jack Kaszubinski, freshman Nolan Humphreys and Schwalje each posted one goal for the Eagles in the second quarter.
The third quarter saw sophomore Evan Carmody, freshman Drew Held and senior Nathan Vibber post the first three goals of the period before MCLA countered with three goals of its own to end the period at three goals apiece.
Husson was able to outscore MCLA 4-3 in the final quarter thanks to goals from Vibber, Humphreys, freshman Brian Peabody and senior Sean Lyne to secure the win for the Eagles.
Field's six first half goals led the Eagles, in addition to two assists, while Schwalje also added two dimes to his two goals.
Husson outshot MCLA 64-38, including 41-21 in shots on goal, while holding a 40-24 edge in ground balls.
Freshman Kyle Plummer earned the win in net for the Eagles, as Husson converted on 22-26 clear attempts, while forcing 16 MCLA turnovers.
Husson will now turn its attention to the NAC tournament next weekend with its first round opponent, time and location to be announced by the conference this coming week.
