FARMINGTON, Maine – The Husson University women's lacrosse team finished off a 2-0 week in North Atlantic Conference play with a 14-9 road win over the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday afternoon.
Husson (6-6, 4-1 NAC) jumped out to a four-goal lead following the first quarter of play, as the Eagles registered the first five goals of the contest and led 6-2 after the opening period.
Seniors Maddy Benoit and Jordyn Lengle got Husson on the board with unassisted tallies within the first four minutes of the quarter, while senior Natalie Whitten assisted on Benoit's second goal, in addition to an unassisted goal from junior Averi Baker and a feed from Lengle which led to junior Laela Martinez's first of the contest put the Eagles up early on.
Farmington (2-9, 1-4 NAC) responded with back-to-back goals, before Whitten closed the first quarter with a goal on a feed from freshman Kate Boehmcke.
The Beavers got back into the contest in the second period, outscoring the Eagles 3-2, as Boehmcke and Baker tallied goals for Husson to send it into the break up 8-5.
The Eagles added two goals to their lead in the first period out of the halftime break, as Baker opened the period with a goal, while Boehmcke and Lengle answered two Farmington goals with unassisted tallies and Baker concluded a four-goal game with a goal near the end of the period.
Even after surrendering the first two goals of the final period, Husson tallied the final two scores of the game to secure the win thanks to Boehmcke and Whitten regaining possession of the five-goal lead the Eagles started the fourth period with.
Baker and Boehmcke combined for seven of Husson's goals in the win, scoring four and three respectively, while Boehmcke added three assists.
Benoit, Whitten and Lengle each posted two-goal outings, while Martinez rounded out the scoring.
Husson outshot the Beavers 32-23, including 22-18 in shots on goal, while recording five more ground balls and committing three less turnovers.
Senior Emma Beegz stopped nine shots in net, as the Eagles converted on 15-23 clear attempts.
Husson is back in action for its regular season finale on Wednesday when it travels to Castine for a conference clash with Maine Maritime Academy at 6 p.m.
