BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University softball team opened North Atlantic Conference play on Friday at home beating Thomas College 4-0 and 3-1 to win its ninth-straight game.
Husson (15-9, 2-0 NAC) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning over Thomas (9-16, 2-2 NAC) when senior
Bulla McCabe continued her stellar week singling up the middle to score sophomore
Camryn King.
Junior
Lexi Volinsky connected on a two-RBI double in the fourth inning to give the Eagles a 3-0 edge and fellow junior
Lydia Rice plated Volinksy on an RBI single to right center for a 4-0 advantage.
The would be all of the run support graduate student
Sky Johnson would need as she dazzeled on the mound, pitching seven complete innings, allowing only four hits and striking out 13 Terriers on the day.
Volinksky finished 2-3 at the plate for the Eagles, while King, senior
Tatyanna Biamby, McCabe, graduate student
Julia Gregoire, senior
Tori Exel and Rice all posted hits.
In the doubleheader finale, both teams battled through a scoreless opening three innings before Biamby broke the 0-0 tie with an RBI single to right center.
The Eagles added another run on a Thomas miscue and plated their third run of the game when senior
Kiara McLeod singled up the middle.
The Terriers battled back in the finale, scoring a run in the sixth inning, but sophomore
Ana Lang who got the start in the circle slammed the door shut in the seventh to pick up the 3-1 decision.
Lang pitched a complete-game, five-hit performance, while striking out six batters.
King, Biamby, McLeod, Volinky and Rice picked up hits for the Eagles.
Husson will now get a much-needed break before hosting Bates College at home on Tuesday for a doubleheader beginning at 3 & 5 p.m.
