BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University softball team picked up a pair of non-conference in-state games against Bates College on Tuesday winning 1-0 in game one and 6-0 in game two for its 11th-straight win.
Husson (17-9) battled Bates (14-12) scoreless through the first five innings of Tuesday's opening game before senior
Bulla McCabe busted the game open with a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth for the eventual winning run.
Graduate student
Sky Johnson wouldn't need any more help as impressed in the circle, pitching seven complete innings, allowing just one hit in the first inning before retiring the Bobcats in order for the remaining six innings on her way to striking out six.
McCabe finished with two hits, while graduate student
Julia Gregoire and senior's
Tori Exel and
Kiara McLeod each added hits.
In Tuesday's finale, the Eagles got on the board again with another big fly, this time off the bat of junior
Morgan Tainter who got the start in game two behind the plate.
Tainter connected on a two-run shot to center field for an early 2-0 lead.
Sophomore
Camryn King later scored on a wild pitch from second base for a 3-0 advantage in the third inning and junior
Lydia Rice singled to centerfield scoring two runs, while the sixth Husson run came around to score on a throwing error by Bates.
With a 6-0 lead, sophomore
Ana Lang kept the Bobcats off the board for the second-straight game, tossing seven complete innings, allowing six hits and striking out nine batters.
Gregoire, McLeod, Tainter and Rice all finished with hits for Husson.
The Eagles will now battle the University of Southern Maine on the road Thursday for a doubleheader beginning at 4 and 6 p.m.
