CASTINE, Maine – The Husson University men's lacrosse team returned to action following a two-and-a-half week layoff, but ultimately fell to Maine Maritime Academy in North Atlantic Conference play by a score of 18-9 at Ritchie Field in Castine.
It was Husson (7-6, 1-2 NAC) who found the scoreboard first, as junior Kiernan Field found the back of the net on a feed from sophomore Owen Giorgio to put the Eagles up 1-0 not even one minute into the contest.
Maine Maritime (7-5, 4-0 NAC) responded with 12-consecutive goals over a near 20-minute stretch to firmly take control of the conference clash.
The Eagles found the back of the net three more times before the halftime intermission, as freshmen Drew Held, Taylor Schwalje and Owen Gray each posted a goal to send Husson into halftime down 13-4.
Field posted a second-half hat-trick, while Gray and Schwalje found their second goals of the contest, but the early run from the Mariners was just too much, as the Eagles dropped their second-straight conference matchup.
Giorgio recorded two assists, while four other Eagles recorded one dime each, as Husson was outshot 59-34 for the contest, including 35-21 in shots on goal.
Sophomore Drew Clinch led the Eagles with seven ground balls, while junior Odin Burk made 17 saves in net, as Husson converted on 20-26 clear attempts.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday with a senior battle against Thomas College beginning at 12 p.m.
