BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University softball team returned to action on Friday sweeping Saint Joseph's College of Maine 2-0 and 5-1 in non-conference action.
Husson (9-9) road the arm of graduate student
Sky Johnson in Friday's opening game, Johnson allowed just two hits, one walk while striking out seven Saint Joseph's (7-15) batters to pick up the win.
Junior
Lexi Volinsky drove in senior
Tori Exel in the second inning for the eventual game-winning run, while junior
Lydia Rice tripled off the fence in the fifth inning and sophomore
Camryn King connected on a sacrifice flyout to give Johnson a 2-0 cushion.
The Eagles finished with five hits in game one after nearly three weeks away from the diamond.
Senior
Tatyanna Biamby paced Husson with a pair of hits, while senior's
Bulla McCabe and
Kiara McLeod added hits along with Rice.
In Friday's finale, Husson racked up 10 hits, scoring two runs in the first inning, the first one McCabe's first collegiate homerun in the first and the second when senior Julia Gregiore stole home for an early 2-0 advantage.
The Eagles added three more insurance runs in the third inning, McLeod singled to right field scoring McCabe, while junior
Morgan Tainter laced a two-RBI single to left field scoring McLeod and sophomore
Lyndsee Reed.
The Monks managed to get on the board with a run in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 5-1, but sophomore
Ana Lang impressed in the circle, pitching a complete-game, 11-strikeout performance.
McCabe finished 2-3 at the plate with two runs scored, while Exel finished 3-4, recording her 100th-career hit.
Additionally, junior
Tayler Watterson, Gregoire, McLeod, Tainter and Volinsky all tallied hits for the Eagles.
Husson returns to action on Monday for another in-state doubleheader showdown with Colby College at 3 and 5 p.m.
