MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Husson University women's lacrosse team returned to action returned to action on Sunday battling SUNY Potsdam to a 15-13 loss in Myrtle Beach.
Husson (1-3) began the fourth quarter down 13-8 to SUNY Potsdam (3-0) in neutral-site action. Potsdam added a goal in the opening minute of the fourth to extend its advantage to 14-8. However, the Eagles didn't go down without a fight as junior
Jordyn Lengle scored her second goal of the game at the 13:33 mark to cut into the deficit 14-9.
Junior
Laela Martinez made it 14-10 with her second goal on the day, followed by an unassisted goal from junior
Averi Baker and another from Lengle off an assist from sophomore
Gracie Gardner gave the Eagles four unanswered goals and trailed 14-12 with 5:56 remaining.
Potsdam added a late goal with :16 seconds remaining to extend its edge back to three goals, but Baker added her third goal of the game as time expired to make the game 15-13 as Potsdam held on for the win.
Potsdam led 5-3 on Sunday after the opening period and controlled a 9-5 edge at the half.
Baker and Lengle led the Eagles with three goals each, while Martinez and freshman
Kate Boehmcke eached added two, followed by goals from sophomore's
Madison Lower,
Azabell Assaf and senior
Natalie Whitten.
Senior
Emma Beegz finished with seven saves in cage to go along with a team-high nine ground balls.
Senior
Maddy Benoit, Boehmcke and Lengle each tallied three draw controls apiece, while Lengle caused five turnovers and Boehmcke added four.
Husson closes out its triple to South Carolina on Tuesday when it battles Bridgewater State University at 12:30 p.m.
