MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Husson University women's lacrosse team closed out its Mrytle Beach Spring Break trip on Tuesday with a 21-12 loss to Bridgewater State University.
Bridgewater (5-1) opened Tuesday's matchup on a 3-0 run before Husson (1-3) got on the board with an unassisted goal from freshman
Kate Boehmcke.
The Bears added four unanswered goals to carry a 7-1 advantage into the second quarter, adding another goal in the opening minute of the second to take a commanding 8-1 edge.
The Eagles cut into the deficit with a goal from sophomore
Madison Lower and another by sophomore
Gracie Gardner to cut the lead to 9-3. BSU added another goal before Husson rolled off four-straight goals, the first from senior
Natalie Whitten, junior
Averi Baker from Boehmcke, junior
Laela Martinez and Boehmcke added her second to pull within 10-7 of the Bears.
Bridgewater managed to sneak a goal in with :05 seconds remaining in the half to take a 11-7 advantage into the break.
Baker tallied her second goal of the contest to open the third quarter and pull within 11-8, however, BSU benefited from a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach at 21-9.
Husson didn't go down without a fight, scoring the final four goals of the contest, the first from Whitten, Baker added her third and Gardner and Martinez each added their second goals, respectively to make the game 21-12.
Boehmcke led the Eagles with nine draw controls, while senior
Jordyn Lengle added four.
Husson will host Vermont State University Lyndon on Mar. 22 to open North Atlantic Conference action beginning at 3 p.m.
