WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — The Husson University softball team returned to action on Sunday splitting a doubleheader against Penn State Brandywine loosing 3-2 in eight innings and beating SUNY Poly 1-0 to close out the day.
Husson (2-4) had the bats going in the first inning against Brandywine, striking for an early run on a double from senior
Bulla McCabe that scored sophomore
Camryn King.
However, Penn State Brandywine (3-0) took a 2-1 advantage following a two-RBI single in the bottom half of the inning.
Husson tied the game 2-2 in the fourth on an RBI single from junior
Lexi Volinsky as both couldn't push a run across over the final three innings.
Sunday's doubleheader opener was decided in the eighth inning, The Eagles were held in check in the top half of the inning, but an error in the bottom half allowed the winning run to score and give Brandywine the 3-2 win.
Graduate student
Julia Gregoire finished 2-4 at the plate, while senior
Kiara McLeod added a 2-3 performance.
Sophomore
Ana Lang went the distance for Husson, striking out eight batters over seven innings.
In Sunday's finale, Volinsky played the hero offensively, connecting on a triple in the second inning that plated senior
Tori Exel for the only run of the game. SUNY Poly (0-1) was limited to just four hits as graduate student
Sky Johnson mowed down seven batters over seven innings.
Next up for Husson is a doubleheader matchup against Swarthmore College and Nichols College on Monday beginning at 2 and 4:15 p.m., respectively.
