BANGOR, Maine- The Husson University women's lacrosse fell to Bates College, 24-5, in a non-conference game at Boucher Field on the campus of Husson University on Tuesday evening.
Bates (3-1) opened the scoring 16 seconds into the game off the shot from Lucy Taylor. The Bobcats would score the first four goals of the game before Husson (1-2) freshman Kate Boehmcke netted the first goal for the Eagles midway through the first quarter.
A goal at the end of the first quarter from junior Laela Martinez would keep the game within seven, as the Bobcats outscored the Eagles 9-2 in the first period. Bates would blank Eagles in the second quarter and take a 16-2 lead into halftime.
Heavy sleet and slippery conditions would limit the two teams to just 11 goals total in the second half, as both offenses struggled with ball control. Husson was outshot 38-7 in the contest and struggled transitioning up the field, going just four of 18 on clear attempts.
The Eagles had three separate goal scorers in the second half and junior Averi Baker finished with a pair of assists. Freshman Finley Pomerleau netted her first collegiate goal in the defeat for Husson.
The Eagles will return to action this Sunday at 1 p.m. as they'll take on SUNY Potsdam in South Carolina as part of their spring break schedule.
