BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's lacrosse team got multiple goals from five different players en route to a dominant 18-6 win on senior day over the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field.
After Farmington (1-7, 0-2) found the opening goal 1:30 into Saturday's North Atlantic Conference game, Husson (3-5, 2-1 NAC) tallied six-consecutive goals to take command of the game in the opening period, as senior Maddy Benoit posted two, while senior Natalie Whitten, juniors Averi Baker and Gracie Gardner and freshman Kate Boehmcke tallied one goal each.
The Beavers posted a late goal in the first period on a free position attempt to make the score 6-2 headed into the second quarter, but the Eagles regained control to begin the second period with junior Laela Martinez, Gardner and Boehmcke registering goals to put Husson up 9-2.
Farmington recorded the next two goals of the contest before the Eagles closed the opening half with three-straight goals from senior Jordyn Lengle, Boehmcke and Benoit to enter the halftime break up 12-4.
The Beavers found the back of the net first in the second frame, but once again it was the Eagles who posted a run of three-straight goals, this time coming from Boehmcke, Baker and Gardner, as Farmington would add a final goal onto its tally to send the game into the final 15 minutes at 15-6 in favor of Husson.
The Eagles would find the back of the net three more times in the final period with Whitten and Gardner adding onto their totals, before freshman Reese Sullivan ended the scoring for Husson.
Husson outshot the Beavers 41-17 on the day, including 25-9 in shots on goal, while also converting on 19-24 clear attempts and cashing in on 5-8 free position attempt shots.
Boehmcke and Gardner led the way with four goals each, while Boehmcke also added two assists.
Benoit posted three goals in the win, in addition to two goals and five assists from Baker and two goals and three assists from Whitten.
Senior Emma Beegz was able to turn away seven of the 13 shots on goal that came her way, while picking up her second win of the year.
Prior to the game, Husson recognized its senior class of Lengle, Lacey Scanlon, Whitten, Sydney Heth, Benoit and Beegz.
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday for a trip to Waterville to take on Thomas College at 4 p.m.
