BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University men's lacrosse team battled back down 12-7 to Salem State University at home on Wednesday before falling 13-11 in non-conference action.
Husson (7-4) took an early lead in Wednesday's non-conference showdown when junior
Kiernan Field found the back of the net :34 seconds into the game.
Salem State (5-2) netted back-to-back goals to take a 2-2 lead, but the Eagles struck for back-to-back goals of their own, the first from senior
Sean Lyne and the season by freshman
Cody Dingwell to regain the 3-2 edge.
The lead was short live as the Vikings rolled off six-straight goals to close out the first quarter and throughout the second half.
Husson didn't go down without a fight, scoring a crucial goal with :05 seconds left by Field to cut the deficit to 8-4.
Salem State and Husson traded goals to make the game 9-5, freshman
Owen Gray got into the scoring column for the Eagles, but the Vikings benefited from back-to-back goals to take an 11-5 advantage.

Drew Clinch made the game 11-7 with his first goal of the game.
The Vikings opened the fourth quarter with their 12th goal, but Husson took advantage of a Salem State penalty to pull back within 12-8 with Clinch's second goal from Giorgio.
Senior
Dean Sinkler cut the deficit to 12-9 with his second goal of the season from Giorgio, while Field and Clinch netted back-to-back clutch goals with 3:07 remaining, with assists from Clinch and Giorgio, respectively, to pull within 12-11.
The Vikings managed to run out the final 3:07 scoring a late goal with :09 seconds remaining to run the lead to 13-11 and come away with the tough-fought decision.
Next up for the Eagles is a North Atlantic Conference matchup on the road against SUNY Delhi on Saturday at 1 p.m.
