WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — The Husson University softball team returned to action on Thursday falling 12-3 to Ithaca College and beating Regis College 11-1 heading into its final day at The Spring Games.
Husson (6-6) led 2-0 over Ithaca (6-1) following two runs in the first inning. Junior
Lexi Volinsky singled to score sophomore
Camryn King and senior
Tori Exel connected on an RBI single that plated senior
Bulla McCabe.
However, Ithaca rattled off a six-run inning in the second and a three-run effort in the third to take a commanding 9-2 advantage.
Ithaca added another run in the fourth to make the deficit 10-2 before graduate student
Julia Gregoire doubled in a run in the fifth inning to get Husson back on the board.
The Bombers added two runs in the sixth inning to come away with the 12-3 decision.
Gregoire and Exel each finished with two hits apiece for the Eagles.
In the doubleheader finale against Regis (2-6) the Eagles came out swinging as Exel homered to begin the second inning for an early 1-0 lead. Husson added another run on a Regis error and a third on an RBI single from McCabe to take a 3-0 lead after the second inning.
McCabe doubled in the firth for her second RBI of the day and a 4-0 edge, adding another run to make it 5-0 off another Regis error.
Junior
Emily Dunbar connected on an RBI single later in the inning, while junior
Jordan Lambert was hit by a pitch with bases load to earn an RBI.
Husson added three more runs in the fifth inning to open up a commanding 11-0 edge, freshman
Allie Casavant plated two runs on a two-RBI single and senior
Tatyanna Biamby also drove in a run.
Regis got on the board with a run in the bottom half of the inning, but the damage had been done as Husson came away with the 11-1 five-inning victory.
Casavant, Biamby and McCabe each recorded two hits for the Eagles, while Husson finished with nine for the game.
The Eagles close out their trip to The Spring Games on Friday with a doubleheader against North Park University at 9 a.m. and a matchup against Roger Williams University at 11:15 a.m.
