Women’s track & field finishes fifth at State of Maine Championships, Monreal breaks program triple jump record

BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Husson University women's track & field team finished fifth overall at the State of Maine Championships on Saturday hosted by Bowdoin College, while freshman Natasha Monreal broke the program triple jump record. 
 
Freshman Molly Dearborn started off the Eagles showing with a personal-best 29.07 in the 200 meters, while junior Mackenzie Emerson finished fifth in the 800 meters with a mark of 2:29.60. 
 
Senior Ava Dowling clocked PR time of 11:00.80 in the 3,000 meters to finish sixth overall and freshman Brooke Chase posted another PR for Husson in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.60. 
 
The Eagles 4x200 meter relay team of Dearborn, junior Niamiah Perry, Chase and Monreal clocked a 1:58.77 to finish sixth in the event. 
 
Additionally, junior Grace Bedore, Dowling, Emerson and Dearborn added a fifth-place showing in the 4x800 relay with a time of 10:44.49, breaking the school record set back in 2020 at the University of Southern Maine Invite. 
 
Junior Nine Gregory cleared 1.56 meters in the high jump to finish as the State of Maine runner-up in the event, while fellow junior Alexis Freeman cleared 2.80 meters in the pole vault to finish fourth overall. 
 
Monreal added to her impressive indoor season with a fourth-place jump of 5.15 meters in the long jump, before making history in the triple jump. Monreal, who broke the program record earlier this season, posted an impressive distance of 10.71 meters to finish fourth in the event and break her previous record of 10.65 meters. 
 
Junior Megan Fletcher placed for the Eagles in the weight throw, tossing 12.26 meters to finish seventh. Additionally, freshman Paige Chresbro PR'd in the weight throw with a throw of 10.83 meters. 
 
Husson will now turn its attention to the Bobcat "Fresh" Tune-up hosted by Bates College on Feb. 22
