Women’s basketball has 10-game NAC win-streak snapped at MMA

CASTINE, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball team fell for the first time in more than two months in North Atlantic Conference play, as it dropped its penultimate regular season game of the year to Maine Maritime Academy by a score of 79-55 on Saturday afternoon at Smith Gymnasium.

Maine Maritime (19-4, 12-0 NAC) made a statement in the opening quarter, as it outscored Husson (13-11, 10-2 NAC) 20-6 in the first 10 minutes of play, en route to never trailing in the contest.

The Mariners opened on a 7-0 run and closed the period on a 6-0 run to open up a double-digit margin on the Eagles.

The second quarter was more of the same, as Maine Maritime doubled-up Husson 18-9 to take a 38-15 lead into the locker room.

The Eagles were more competitive offensively in the second half, as they lost the third quarter just 21-17, while they won the fourth quarter by a margin of 23-20.

Freshman Lilly Roy and senior Maci Beals were the lone double-figure scorers for Husson, as Roy totaled 12 points in 15 minutes, while Beals added 10 and five rebounds.

Husson finished at just over 30% from the floor as a team, including 26.1% from three-point range, while connecting on 13-17 from the foul line and dishing out 13 assists on 18 made field goals.

The Eagles will look to bounce back one week from today in their regular season finale at the University of Maine at Farmington with tip-off set for 1 p.m.
