STANDISH, Maine — The Husson University women's lacrosse team opened its 2025 season on the road Wednesday evening falling to Saint Joseph's College of Maine 16-10.
Husson (0-1) looked strong to open Wednesday in-state battle, tallying four goals over the first 15 minutes to open up a 4-3 advantage over Saint Joseph's (1-0).
Freshman
Kate Boehmcke netted the first collegiate goal of her career following a Monks score to begin the game and added another score moments late to give the Eagles a 2-1 edge.
Junior
Averi Baker increase Husson's advantage to 3-1 with her first goal of the season before SJC tied the game 3-3 with back-to-back scores.
Boehmcke recorded her first collegiate hat trick with :26 seconds remaining in the first quarter to take a 4-3 edge heading into the second quarter.
Back-to-back goals by the Monks to open the quarter gave Saint Joe's a 5-4 advantage, but Baker scored her second goal of the game from Boehmcke to even the contest at 5-5. SJC added two more goals over the remaining four minutes to run the score to 7-5 before Baker recoded the Eagles second hat trick of the game with a goal at the 1:17 mark in the second quarter to make the score 7-6 heading into halftime.
Beginning the second half, the Monk added a pair of goals to increase their lead to 9-6, but Boehmcke cut into the deficit with her fourth score of the game with an assist from Baker. Both the Eagles and Monks traded goals over the next two minutes with Baker recording her fourth score, but SJC scored with 2:37 left to lead 11-8 heading into the final quarter.
After Saint Joseph's netted two goals to begin the fourth quarter, junior
Laela Martinez put a shot into the back of the Monks net from Boehmcke and senior
Natalie Whitten registered her first goal to cut the deficit to 13-10 with 10:20 remaining.
However, SJC rolled off three unanswered scored to come away with the 16-10 decision.
Boehmcke impressed in her collegiate debut finishing with four goals and two assists, while Baker also added four scores and one assist.
The Eagles finished with an 18-12 advantage on draw controls paced by Boehmcke's seven and senior
Jordyn Lengle's six.
Husson returns to the road on Saturday for a noon matchup against Wellesley College.
