BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Husson University women's track & field team opened its indoor season at the UBears Alumni Invite on Saturday at the Farley Field House in Brunswick.
The Eagles took home an event win in the 4x800 relay, where freshmen Lucinda Carroll and Nina Huber and senior Grace Bedore, and sophomore Molly Dearborn combined for a time of 11:07.83 to take first place. Husson continued its relay success in the 4x200, as the quartet of Dearborn, senior Lexi Freeman, sophomore Natasha Monreal, and freshman JaLynn Williams crossed the line in 1:55.94 to earn second place.
In the sprints, freshman JaLynn Williams made an instant impact in her collegiate debut, taking third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.46 seconds. Sophomore Brianna Andrews matched Bowdoin's Julia Penafiel at 8.95 to finish tied for fourth, while Williams later turned in another strong performance in the long jump, finishing fifth with a best mark of 4.96 meters to cap a standout opening meet.
In the pole vault, Andrews delivered a sixth-place finish by clearing 2.25 meters in her season opener to post a new personal-best.
Husson added a sixth-place finish from sophomore Paige Chesbro in the shot put with a distance of 9.33m, in addition to a personal-best from Chesbro in the weight throw with a throw of 10.89m.
The Eagles return to action on Friday when they compete in the UMaine Black Bear Invitational in Orono.
