LYNDONVILLE, Vt. — The Husson University volleyball team closed out the regular season with a dominant straight-set victory over Vermont State University–Lyndon, 3–0, on Saturday afternoon inside George W. Stannard Gymnasium.
The win improved the Eagles to 9-16 overall and 7-1 in North Atlantic Conference play, securing the second seed heading into next week's NAC Tournament.
Husson (9-16, 7-1 NAC) took control early in the opening set behind strong serving from sophomore Jonna Travis and sophomore Kimberly Daniels, who combined for four aces in the frame. After several long rallies, freshman Kate McPhee capped the set with a pair of kills off assists from freshman Peyton Hooker to put the Eagles ahead, 25-19.
In the second, Husson battled through six ties before pulling away late. Freshman Shanteena Griffiths and McPhee each tallied key kills down the stretch, while Hooker's precise setting fueled a balanced offense that carried the Eagles to a 25-21 win.
The Eagles never looked back in the third set, racing out to a 10-3 lead and maintaining control throughout. Travis delivered a strong serving run that included two of her six aces, and Daniels sealed the sweep with consecutive kills as Husson closed the match 25-14.
McPhee led the attack with nine kills on an impressive .643 hitting percentage, while Griffiths matched her with nine kills and added 15 digs. Travis recorded five kills, six aces, and 10 digs, while Daniels added six kills and three aces. Hooker orchestrated the offense with 28 assists, 10 digs, and two aces.
As a team, Husson finished with 34 kills, 30 assists, and 75 digs, adding 11 service aces while holding Lyndon (3-22, 1-7 NAC) to just 11 kills and a .052 hitting percentage.
The Eagles now turn their focus to the North Atlantic Conference Tournament, which begins next week, with Husson earning a bye to the semifinals, which take place on Sunday.
