BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University men's soccer team continued its NAC play winning streak Saturday afternoon in a 4-0 win over the University of Maine at Presque Isle at Boucher Field on senior day.
Husson (4-6-3, NAC 4-0) would pile on shots quickly in the first half, but couldn't find the back of the net early on. It wasn't until the 32nd minute when senior Nico Puerta connected a shot that would give the Eagles a 1-0 lead, scoring his first goal of the season.
After the break, the Owls (3-5-1, NAC 1-2-1) would get their first shot at ending the shut out in the 60th, with a shot by Star Boma just missing the corner of the goal, hitting off the crossbar.
The Eagles would continue to hold control of the ball offensively, and would tack onto their 1-0 lead after the missed UMPI opportunity.
In the 62nd minute, freshman Lucas Alabiso would sneak a shot past the goalkeeper, scoring his second goal of the season. Just two minutes later Alabiso would be involved in another goal, this time providing the assist to freshman Chadi Hamadi, also scoring his second goal of the season.
It looked as if Husson would win the game with a final score of 3-0, but with just 30 seconds left freshman Jorge Mora would score, adding the finishing touch to an Eagles' 4-0 win.
Husson outshot UMPI 29–3 and held a 14–0 edge in shots on goal.
Goalkeepers junior Garret Jordan and freshman Yovanny Spilsbury would split time in net, earning a shutout with neither one having to make a save.
Prior to the start of the match, Victor Blanco, Puerta, Menuka Perera, Adam Woods and Arik Weinstein were honored on senior day.
Husson will return to action on Sunday when they'll host No. 4 Williams College at 12 p.m.
