WATERVILLE, Maine – The Husson University field hockey team earned a crucial road victory on Saturday afternoon, shutting out Thomas College 3–0 at Bernatchez Field in Central Maine Collegiate Field Hockey Conference play.
The Eagles (4–5, 2–0 CMCFHC) controlled the tempo from start to finish, scoring in three of four quarters while limiting the Terriers (7–5, 0–1 NAC) to just three shots on goal.
Junior Faith Tillotson opened the scoring just over four minutes into the first quarter, giving Husson an early lead it would never relinquish. The Eagles' defense, anchored by senior Ella Louder and senior Leah Pushard, kept Thomas in check despite multiple penalty corner chances, and freshman goalkeeper Ella Duchette made a key stop late in the period to preserve the 1–0 advantage.
After a scoreless second quarter that featured a defensive save by junior Jazmin Johnson, Husson broke through again midway through the third. Senior Averi Baker finished off a penalty corner sequence at the 44:41 mark to double the lead, then added her second goal of the afternoon early in the fourth quarter to make it 3–0.
The Eagles' back line held strong the rest of the way, keeping Thomas without a shot in the final frame. Duchette finished with two saves to secure her second shutout of the season, while Husson outshot the Terriers 12–10 overall and 6–3 in shots on goal.
Tillotson and Baker combined for all three Husson tallies, while Johnson's defensive stop highlighted a complete team effort in all phases.
Husson returns home on Wednesday when it hosts No. 11 Bowdoin College at 7 p.m.
