JOHNSON, Vt. – The Husson University volleyball team began its weekend trip to Vermont with a 3–1 North Atlantic Conference victory over Vermont State University Johnson on Friday afternoon inside Carter Gymnasium.
The Eagles (8-16, 6-1 NAC) took the opening set 26–24, followed by a 27–25 win in the second, before the Badgers (10-14, 3-4 NAC) responded in the third, 25–20. Husson regrouped in the fourth and sealed the match with a 27–25 triumph.
Husson found itself in a back-and-forth first set that featured several key momentum swings. Late in the frame, graduate student Julia Leavitt and sophomore Mikayla Gray came through with consecutive kills to push the Eagles to set point before a service ace from senior Leah Peloquin capped off the 26–24 win.
In the second, the Eagles again held off a late Johnson push, with junior Janna Preskorn serving back-to-back aces to close out a 27–25 victory. The Badgers answered in the third, taking advantage of Husson attack errors to stay alive with a 25–20 set win.
The Eagles rebounded in the fourth behind steady play from junior Alana Peruti, who delivered three aces during a mid-set run. Leavitt and freshman Kate McPhee added timely kills as Husson edged out another 27–25 result to clinch the match.
Leavitt led Husson with 15 kills, while Gray added 11 kills and a team-high 27 digs. Preskorn tallied 14 assists, five kills, and 21 digs, and Peloquin recorded five service aces to go with 12 digs. Defensively, sophomore Amanda Mei Morse anchored the back row with 17 digs.
As a team, Husson finished with 36 kills, 29 assists, and 99 digs, while posting 17 service aces.
The Eagles will close the regular season tomorrow when they head to Vermont State University Lyndon for a 1 p.m. first-serve.
