BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University field hockey team struck first but couldn't hold off Thomas College in a 2-1 Central Maine Collegiate Field Hockey Conference matchup Wednesday night at the Winkin Complex.

The Eagles (6-7, 3-1 CMCFHC) took an early lead just over six minutes into the contest when junior Faith Tillotson scored off an assist from senior Averi Baker. Tillotson's goal came after Husson earned a penalty corner, and Baker's initial shot was stopped before Tillotson buried the rebound to make it 1-0.

Thomas (12-5, 2-1 CMCFHC) answered late in the first quarter, capitalizing on a corner as Paige Gilbert tied the game off a feed from Kara Richards at the 14:53 mark. The Terriers continued to press throughout the second and third periods, generating 22 shots and 14 on goal.

The visitors broke through again midway through the third when Maci Freeman scored what proved to be the game-winner, finishing off a setup from Leah Knight after a flurry of corners.

Husson pushed hard in the fourth, firing eight shots and earning four corners in the final 15 minutes, but Thomas goalkeeper Eliya Drummond stood tall with five of her nine saves in the quarter.

Freshman goalkeeper Ella Duchette made 10 saves in goal for the Eagles, while senior Leah Pushard registered a pair of defensive saves to keep Husson within reach.

The Eagles return to action on the road this weekend to close the regular season at Vermont State University Castleton at 12 p.m.
