CASTLETON, Vt. — The Husson University field hockey team closed out the regular season in dominant fashion on Saturday afternoon, rolling past Vermont State University Castleton with a 6–0 victory at Dave Wolk Stadium.
The Eagles'(7-7) offensive depth was on full display, as six different players found the back of the cage while freshman goalkeeper Ella Duchette earned the shutout with five saves.
Husson wasted no time applying pressure, breaking through midway through the first quarter when junior Faith Tillotson redirected a pass from senior Maddie Perkins into the cage at 10:37 for her ninth goal of the season.
The Eagles extended their lead early in the second quarter as junior Tessa Capozzoli doubled the advantage in the 17th minute before senior Ruby Kitchin made it 3–0 off another assist from Perkins just five minutes later. Moments later, senior Averi Baker added her ninth goal of the season to send Husson into halftime with a commanding 4–0 lead.
After a scoreless third, the Eagles capped the win with two more tallies in the fourth quarter. Perkins converted on a rebound in the 54th minute for her team-leading 10th of the year, and senior Kyla Havey followed less than two minutes later to make it 6–0.
Perkins powered the offense with one goal and two assists, while Tillotson, Capozzoli, Kitchin, Baker, and Havey each scored once.
Defensively, senior Leah Pushard registered a key defensive save in the second quarter, and Duchette anchored the backline with five stops en route to her fourth shutout of the season.
Husson outshot Castleton (7-10) 26–7 and held a 10–6 edge in shots on goal, along with 10 penalty corners to the hosts' six.
With the win, Husson heads into Central Maine Collegiate Field Hockey Conference tournament play next weekend with seedings to be announced at a later time.
