BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University women's swimming and diving team opened its season with an impressive showing against Saint Joseph's College of Maine, earning a 111-51 victory on Saturday afternoon at Webber Pool.
The Eagles displayed both depth and determination throughout the meet, highlighted by several standout individual and relay performances. Junior Mia Winslow delivered one of the afternoon's most exciting swims, storming back over the final half of the 500 freestyle to finish second with a time of 6:29.63, making up significant ground in the closing laps.
Freshman Sara Harriman turned in a strong double for Husson, touching first in the 200 freestyle (2:12.70) and later posting a solid 5:23.09 in the 400 IM. Freshman Emily Kennard was sharp in the 100 butterfly, taking the win in 1:07.85, while junior Olivia Underwood claimed second in the 200 backstroke (2:33.05) after a strong performance earlier in the 100 fly (1:14.65).
Sophomore Mariah Muskavitch also impressed in the 50 butterfly, clocking 31.22, and contributed to Husson's relay success throughout the meet.
The quartet of freshman Abbey Donato, Underwood, freshman Brooklyn Henderson, and sophomore Gabrielle Hoffmann captured a win in the 200 freestyle relay to close the meet, as they combined for a time of 1:52.37, with Donato setting the tone with a 27.8-second opening split. Donato also shined individually, sweeping both sprint freestyle events — taking first in the 50 free (28.32) and 100 free (1:01.78).
Husson also showed strength on the boards, as senior Riley Mahoney scored a 206.6 in the 1-meter, 6-dives and a 139.5 in the 1-meter, 5-dives.
Additional highlights included Henderson's win in the 100 backstroke (1:10.26) and freshman Izzie Enos leading a sweep of the 50 breaststroke (38.91).
Husson returns to the pool on Saturday when it heads to Norwich University for a 12 p.m. meet.
