WATERVILLE, Maine — The Husson University men's soccer team rallied from a one goal deficit with under 18 minutes left to come away with a hard-fought 3–3 draw against Thomas College on Wednesday evening at Smith Field.
The Eagles (6-8-4, 6-1-1 NAC) battled through a back-and-forth match that saw both sides trade momentum in a spirited North Atlantic Conference finale.
Thomas (10-7-1, 7-0-1 NAC) struck first in the 4th minute when David Ivarsson converted a cross from Tre Burgess and Ordi Bimvy to give the Terriers an early 1–0 lead. Husson answered late in the half as freshman Miguel Diaz Alvarez drew a foul in the box and buried a penalty kick in the 35th minute to even the score. Just six minutes later, freshman Cesar Soucre put the Eagles ahead 2–1 with his fifth goal of the season, as he floated a shot that slipped through the hands of the Thomas keeper and over the goal line off a setup from Rique Mendes, sending Husson into halftime with the lead.
Thomas responded with two quick second-half goals. Daud Abdi tied it in the 70th minute from Ivarsson and Micky Woodrow, and Cody Robinson followed less than three minutes later to put the Terriers back on top, 3–2. Husson refused to back down — in the 80th minute, Daniel Noguera netted his goal of the season on a well-placed free kick to level the match once again and seal the 3–3 result.
In net, freshman Liam Mason turned aside six shots for the Eagles, while Jamie Fischer made seven saves for the Terriers. Husson finished with a 20–20 tie in shots, while earning a 5–4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Eagles close the regular season on Saturday at Maine Maritime Academy at 2:30 p.m. with a chance to lock up the second seed in the upcoming NAC tournament.
