BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University women's soccer team continued its unbeaten run in conference play Saturday afternoon, defeating the University of Maine at Farmington 3-0 at Boucher Field.
The Eagles (10-4-1, 6-0-1 NAC) controlled the match from start to finish, outshooting the Beavers (8-6-1, 4-3-1 NAC) 30-1 and holding a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Husson took command midway through the first half after a series of early chances. In the 26th minute, senior Devon St. Louis put the Eagles on the board, finishing from close range after sophomore Paige Dunn had her initial attempt saved. The goal came after sustained pressure that included multiple corner kicks and shots from junior Rylee Speed and senior Kendra Donahue.
The Eagles continued to apply pressure throughout the half, forcing UMF goalkeeper Paige Gonya to make 12 saves before halftime to keep her team within striking distance.
The Eagles kept their foot on the gas after the break, maintaining possession and creating scoring opportunities through crisp passing and wide play. In the 63rd minute, freshman Jaquie Pangburn doubled the lead, burying a feed from Speed and St. Louis into the bottom corner of the net to make it 2-0. The two combined again in the 83rd minute, as Speed broke down the right side and delivered a low cross that Pangburn converted for her second goal of the match and 11th of the season.
Husson's defense was nearly flawless, allowing just one shot all afternoon. The back line kept UMF's attack quiet, while senior goalkeeper Madison Weigler made one save to record her third shutout of the season.
Husson will close out the regular season on the road next week, with matchups against Thomas College on Wednesday and Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday.
