BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University field hockey team surged to its third straight conference win on Saturday evening, rolling past the University of Maine at Farmington 8–0 at the Winkin Sports Complex.
The Eagles (6–6, 3–0 CMCFHC) wasted no time taking control, scoring four times in the opening 12 minutes. Senior Lauryn Brown opened the scoring at the 5:47 mark, knocking in a pass from senior Maddie Perkins. Less than two minutes later, senior Kyla Harvey doubled the lead on a setup from senior Ruby Kitchin. Brown struck again in the 11th minute for her second goal, then completed her first-half hat trick less than a minute later off a feed from junior Faith Tillotson to give Husson a commanding 4–0 advantage.
The Eagles continued to pour it on in the second quarter. Perkins tallied her second assist of the game, finding senior Averi Baker for Husson's fifth goal at 23:37. After halftime, the Eagles extended their lead further when Tillotson scored unassisted in the 42nd minute, followed two minutes later by a goal from Perkins, assisted by junior Tessa Capozzoli, to make it 7–0.
Capozzoli capped the scoring with a goal of her own in the 57th minute, set up by Baker, as Husson finished with eight goals on 32 total shots, including 20 on goal.
Brown led the way with three goals, while Perkins contributed a goal and two assists. Tillotson added a goal and an assist, and both Baker and Capozzoli recorded a goal and an assist apiece. Havey rounded out the scoring with her first-half tally.
The Eagles' defense was dominant, holding UMaine–Farmington (3–10, 0–2 CMCFHC) to just one total shot. Freshman goalie Ella Duchette earned the shutout in goal, while Ella Grant made 11 saves for the Beavers.
Prior to the start of the game, Husson honored its senior class of Baker, Leah Pushard, Perkins, Gracie Gardner, Havey, Kitchin, Ella Louder and Brown.
