BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University women's volleyball team continued its hot streak Thursday night, defeating the University of Maine at Fort Kent, 3–1 inside Newman Gymnasium.
After dropping the opening set, the Eagles (6-13) regrouped and dominated the next three behind a balanced attack and steady serving.
UMaine–Fort Kent came out strong in the first set, taking advantage of Husson errors to pull ahead late, 25–21. The Eagles responded quickly in the second, using a 9–2 service run powered by sophomore Amanda Mei Morse and junior Janna Preskorn to seize control and even the match at one set apiece. Morse served four aces in the frame, while Preskorn added two more to help Husson close it out, 25–21.
The momentum carried into the third set, where the Eagles' offense found its rhythm. Sophomores Kimberly Daniels and Mikayla Gray combined for eight kills in the set as Husson hit .348 as a team, their best efficiency of the night. Preskorn and freshman Peyton Hooker orchestrated the offense smoothly, spreading the ball across multiple hitters to win the set, 25–19.
In the fourth, Husson jumped out early and never looked back. Preskorn opened the set with an ace and then connected with junior Alana Peruti for key kills in the middle. The Eagles' serving pressure proved too much for the Bengals, as Husson tallied six service aces in the frame and closed out the match with a 25–16 victory.
Preskorn led the Eagles with 10 kills, eight service aces, and 19 assists for a match-high 18 points. Daniels followed with 13 kills and two aces, while Gray contributed eight kills, 14 digs, and seven service aces. Mei Morse added six aces and 12 digs, and Hooker dished out 15 assists with nine digs. Peruti chipped in five kills and a block assist.
As a team, Husson recorded 24 aces, 44 kills, and 60 digs, hitting .156 overall while holding UMFK to .179.
Husson returns to action on Saturday when it heads to Saint Joseph's College of Maine for a tri-match, with games against SJC and Mitchell College on tap.
