STANDISH, Maine — The Husson University volleyball team headed down to Standish for a pair of competitive matches on Saturday at the Harold Alfond Center, falling to Saint Joseph's College of Maine and Mitchell College in non-conference play.
In the opener against Saint Joseph's (11-10), the Monks took the match in straight sets. The Eagles (6-14) showed steady improvement throughout, rallying late in the second and third sets behind strong play from sophomore Mikayla Gray and freshman Kate McPhee. Gray led the attack with seven kills and a .353 hitting percentage, while McPhee added three kills and four blocks at the net. Sophomore Amanda Mei Morse tallied a service ace and five digs, and junior Janna Preskorn contributed five assists and four digs in the loss.
Husson (6-15) carried that energy into its second match of the day against Mitchell (8-9), where the Eagles pushed the Mariners in a tight three-set contest before falling 25–18, 25–23, 25–23.
Preskorn paced the offense with nine kills and seven assists, while Gray added seven kills and two digs. Freshman Shanteena Griffiths chipped in four kills, two aces, and seven digs, and Mei Morse led the back row with 12 digs and two service aces. Freshman Peyton Hooker directed the attack with 15 assists and added nine digs, while freshman Daley Foss registered three kills and a solo block.
The Eagles finished the day with 34 kills and 44 digs across the two matches, displaying resilience and balance on both sides of the ball.
Husson returns to conference action next week with a trip to Maine Maritime Academy on Wednesday set for 6 p.m.
