STANDISH, Maine — The Husson University field hockey team exploded for a season-high seven goals on Wednesday afternoon, powering past Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 7–1, in a dominant non-conference win at the SJC Athletic Complex.
The Eagles (5–6) controlled play from start to finish, recording 21 total shots and 16 on goal while limiting the Monks (8–6) to just seven shots.
Senior Maddie Perkins set the tone early, scoring the opening goal with just five seconds left in the first quarter off an assist from junior Faith Tillotson. Saint Joseph's tied the game midway through the second quarter, but Husson's offense roared to life and never looked back.
Senior Lauryn Brown responded minutes later with what proved to be the game-winning goal, assisted by Perkins, before senior Averi Baker added another to give the Eagles a 3–1 advantage at halftime.
The offensive surge continued in the second half. Tillotson buried a solo goal in the third to make it 4–1, and Husson broke the game open in the fourth quarter with three more tallies. Brown scored her second of the day off a setup from Baker, Baker netted her second assisted by Perkins, and Tillotson capped the scoring less than two minutes later to seal the decisive win.
Perkins finished with a team-best five points on a goal and three assists, while Tillotson and Baker each recorded two goals and one assist. Brown also added two goals on seven shots, all on target.
Defensively, freshman goalie Ella Duchette was solid in the cage, stopping three of four shots faced in a complete-game effort.
Husson held commanding advantages in both shots (21–7) and penalty corners (10–4).
The Eagles return to conference play this weekend when they host the University of Maine at Farmington at the Winkin Complex on Homecoming on Saturday at 6 p.m.
