BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's volleyball team was defeated in non-conference action on Tuesday evening by the University of Southern Maine with a final score of 3-1 at Newman Gymnasium.
Southern Maine (7-15) utilized a 7-0 scoring run in the opening set after trailing 15-14 to take a 21-15 lead and would close out the first set by a score of 25-19.
The Huskies accomplished more of the same in the second set, as with the score at 6-5 in their favor, USM rattled off 14 of the next 19 points to take a commanding 20-10, as it took a two-set lead with a 25-14 win.
Husson (5-13) gained some momentum in the third set to avoid losing in straight-sets, as it scored four-straight points with the score at 16-14 to open up a six-point lead and would hang on for the set win.
The Huskies jumped on the Eagles early in the fourth set, opening up a quick 10-2 lead and never let Husson back into the set, as they put the finishing touches on the match win.
Graduate student Julia Leavitt led Husson with 10 kills on the night, in addition to scooping up seven digs, while junior Janna Preskorn totaled eight kills, eight digs and 11 assists.
Sophomore Amanda Mei Morse anchored the backline with 16 digs, while freshman Peyton Hooker dished out 15 assists and added 10 digs.
Husson returns to action at home on Thursday when it hosts the University of Maine at Fort Kent at 7 p.m.
