BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's volleyball team kept its perfect start to North Atlantic Conference play alive on Saturday afternoon, defeating SUNY Cobleskill 3–2 in a five-set thriller inside Newman Gymnasium.
Sophomore Mikayla Gray led the attack with 18 kills and five service aces for a match-high 23 points, while junior Janna Preskorn turned in a strong all-around performance with 10 kills, 15 assists, four blocks, and four service aces. Freshman Daley Foss added eight kills and five block assists, and sophomore Amanda Mei Morse anchored the back row with 17 digs, nine assists, and five service aces.
Husson (4-12, 3-0 NAC) controlled the opening set behind efficient hitting from Gray and sophomore Kimberly Daniels, jumping ahead early to take a 25–18 win. Cobleskill (2-12, 1-2 NAC) bounced back to even the match with a 25–20 victory in the second before edging the Eagles 26–24 in a tightly contested third.
With their backs against the wall, Husson responded in the fourth. Preskorn and Foss combined for key kills at the net, and senior Leah Peloquin provided a spark from the service line with a pair of aces to push the Eagles to a 25–20 win and force a decisive fifth set.
In the final frame, Husson surged ahead behind strong serving and clutch play from Gray and Preskorn. Graduate student Julia Leavitt came through with timely points late, helping the Eagles seal the 15–12 set and the 3–2 match victory.
As a team, Husson finished with 52 kills, 46 assists, 21 service aces, and 66 digs while holding Cobleskill to a .105 hitting percentage.
The Eagles return to conference action tomorrow when they host SUNY Delhi at 12 p.m.
