BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University men's basketball team opened up 2025 with a commanding victory over Vermont State University Lyndon at Newman Gymnasium on Monday evening with a 102-75 win in North Atlantic Conference action.
A back-and-forth first four-plus minutes of play between Husson (9-5, 4-0 NAC) and Lyndon (4-9, 1-1 NAC) saw the Hornets break the fourth tie of the contest and take an 11-9 lead on an emphatic putback dunk from Deshawn Ford to give Lyndon a boost of momentum.
The Eagles wouldn't let the Hornets gain a lead larger than two, as a corresponding 18-0 run from Husson over four minutes of action gave the Eagles a distant 16-point edge.
Graduate student Jeremy Moronta played a major part in orchestrating the spurt for Husson, as he tallied 11 points during the stretch.
The Eagles continued to roll for the remainder of the half and scored the final eight points of the frame to take a 55-30 edge into the break.
Moronta and senior Riles Neff combined for 31 of the Husson 55 in the opening half, tallying 16 and 15 respectively, while Moronta added four rebounds and three assists and Neff contributed six rebounds and four assists.
Husson shot an even 50% from the floor and connected on 7-17 three-point attempts, while also forcing 10 turnovers from the Hornets, which turned into 12 Eagle points.
The Eagles were in cruise control for the entirety of the second half, as the lead grew to as many as 35 and Husson rolled to its seventh-consecutive win.
Neff finished his evening with 22 points on 9-13 shooting, while also adding eight rebounds, four assists and three steals in just 25 minutes of action.
Moronta added 19 points of his own, while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out seven assists on an efficient 7-9 shooting.
The Eagles shot 47.6% from the floor as a team, including 37.5% from three-point range, in addition to outrebounding the Hornets 46-42 and forcing 20 turnovers from Lyndon.
Husson will look to keep its momentum going tomorrow when it hosts Vermont State University Johnson at 5 p.m.
