BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball seniors combined for 56 of the Eagle's 61 points in a 61-49 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington Beavers at home on Saturday in North Atlantic Conference action.
After a back and forth first quarter of action Husson (10-10, 8-1 NAC) took the lead with nine minutes left in the first half and never looked back. Farmington (8-10, 5-4 NAC) kept it within ten but trailed for the final 20-plus minutes of action.
The Eagles entered halftime up 29-20 after outscoring the Beavers 17-6 in the second quarter. A point-differential that would prove too much to surmount. The first half saw graduate student Hannah Richards score seven, while senior Jordyn Lengle scored six points to go along with seven rebounds.
Lengle would finish the game with a double-double en route to filling up the stat-sheet, ending the contest with 17 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. Lengle set a career-high in rebounds in the contest and was one point off of tying her top point total.
Husson celebrated its seven seniors, Maci Beals, Lauren Cook, Lengle, Richards, Makaelyn Porter and Trinity Montigny and Sophia McVicar, prior to the game and each of them saw significant minutes in the contest. Richards and Porter joined Lengle in the double-digit scoring column scoring 12 and 10 respectively.
The Eagles dominated Farmington in points in the paint, outscoring them 30-18 despite losing the rebound battle 47-45. Husson also scored 18 more points with their bench than the Beavers who only produced six from the non-starters. The Eagles were also strong defensively, recording eight blocks and 13 steals.
Next up for the Eagles is an out of conference away matchup against the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Friday at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, with Husson enjoying a 40-1 all-time record against UMFK.
