Hot shooting, strong defense propel women’s basketball to NAC rout of Lesley

LEXINGTON, Mass. – The Husson University women's basketball team finished off its two-game, Massachusetts road trip in style with a monster 91-36 North Atlantic Conference win over Lesley University at Minuteman Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.

Husson (7-9, 5-1 NAC) made its mark early on, as eight players found the scorebook in the opening quarter and the Eagles led Lesley (5-9, 1-4 NAC) 31-10 after the first quarter.

The Lynx found the scoreboard first with a three-pointer on their first possession, but a corresponding 19-2 run from Husson gave it a 19-5 lead with 4:40 remaining in the first period.

The second period was more competitive, as the Eagles outscored Lesley just 13-10 and took a 44-20 edge into the locker room.

Husson jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the second quarter to further its advantage, but the Lynx ended the half on an 8-4 run to cut Husson's deficit down.

The third quarter was another big one for the Eagles, as senior Lauren Cook and freshman Lilly Roy each poured in nine points in the period and Husson outscored Lesley 28-8 in the quarter to take a 72-28 lead into the final quarter of play.

Cook and Roy combined for four three-pointers in the first five minutes of the quarter and allowed the Eagles to start the quarter on a 17-4 run and push their lead to 40 points.

Husson continued its strong defense into the fourth quarter, allowing the Lynx just eight points in the frame, while freshman Alana Seward posted all nine of her points in the final 10 minutes to send the Eagles to their fourth-straight win.

Four Husson players scored in double-digits for a second-consecutive day, as Roy led all scorers with 15 on 7-12 shooting, in addition to handing out four assists.

Cook connected on four three-pointers to finish with 12 points, while senior Jordyn Lengle and graduate student Makaelyn Porter each added 10, in addition to Lengle grabbing nine rebounds.

As a team, the Eagles shot over 52% for the game, including nearly 37% from beyond the arc, while holding a 48-29 edge on the glass and forcing the Lynx into 29 turnovers.

Husson will be back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Colby College for a 7 p.m. contest.
