MADISON, N.J. – The Husson University field hockey team got two goal-outbursts from three different players en route to a 7-1 win over Drew University on Sunday afternoon in New Jersey.
Husson (3-1) broke a scoreless-tie with just over three minutes left in the opening quarter as junior Maddie Arsenault received a pass from sophomore Faith Tillotson and had her shot get deflected by a Drew (3-1) defender and into the back of the cage for a 1-0 Eagles lead.
Sophomore Tessa Capozzoli doubled the Husson lead before the end of the first period as she received a pass from classmate Hope Bouchard from just past the midfield line and dribbled into the shooting arch to make it 2-0 Eagles.
Husson took a 4-0 lead into halftime as Arsenault posted her second goal of the game and junior Maddie Perkins tallied her first goal of the contest to give the Eagles a commanding edge.
Tillotson single-handedly extended the Husson lead to 6-0 in the third quarter, as she posted two goals within a five-minute span.
Perkins concluded the scoring for the Eagles late in the fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on a 7-1 win for Husson.
Drew outshot the Eagles 21-18 for the game, but Husson held a 11-10 edge in shots on goal, while the two teams each had 10 penalty corners.
Both goalies saw action for Husson in the win, as sophomore Maria Levesque saved two shots, while freshman Maddie Stevens made six stops.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Vermont State University Castleton for a 12 p.m. contest.
