HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Husson University women's soccer team salvaged a split in the Engineering Cup, hosted by the Stevens Institute of Technology, as the Eagles doubled up SUNY Potsdam on Sunday morning, 6-3, thanks to hat tricks from junior Addi Laslie and senior Kate Harriman.
Husson (1-3) made a statement early in Sunday's contest, as Harriman found the scoreboard first less than a minute into the game off of a feed from junior Caley Nault.
Laslie followed Harriman's lead by posting two goals within 25 seconds of each other, with the first of the two being assisted by senior Natalie Aviolla, as it was 3-0 Husson early on.
With the Eagles holding a commanding lead just four minutes into the game, SUNY Potsdam (1-4) tried to mount a comeback as Kienle Burns got the Bears in the scoring column in the 22nd minute, while Adrianna Orlando brought them within one goal in the 24th minute of action.
Husson managed to carry its 3-2 lead into the halftime intermission and would tack on three goals to its advantage in the first 25 minutes of the second half, as Harriman posted her second goal of the match off of Aviolla's second assist, in addition to Laslie completing her hat trick off of a feed from senior Katie Benson and Harriman posting an unassisted tally in the 70th minute to give the Eagles a 6-2 edge.
Potsdam would add a goal in the 85th minute but the damage was already done by Husson, as it cruised to the non-conference win.
The Eagles outshot the Bears 15-12 for the game, including 11-8 in shots on goal, while Potsdam held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
Junior Madison Weigler manned the net for Husson and made five saves on eight shots on goal from the Bears.
The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they head to Biddeford to battle the University of New England at 6 p.m.
